If you want to delete contacts from Gmail and you’re using the old Contact Manager, complete the below steps:

  1. Sign in to Gmail 
  2. At the top left, click Gmail > Contacts
  3. Select the contact in the Contacts list
  4. Click More, then click Delete contact

If you’re using the new Google Contacts preview:

  1. Open Contacts preview.
  2. Find the contact you want to delete, and click the three dot menu on the right.
  3. Click Delete.

It’s important to note that your contacts are shared across your Google Account so be careful when you delete contacts. If you delete a contact in any application or from one specific device, it will also be deleted from Gmail, Google Chat and other applications on all devices.

If you change your mind or mistakenly delete a contact, you'll be able to recover deleted contacts for 30 days. But 30 days after you delete a contact, it will be removed permanently.

If you want to merge contacts from Gmail

  1. Open Contacts Preview.
  2.  On the left-hand menu, click Find duplicates.
  3. Merge contacts.
  • To merge one-by-one, click the gray Merge button at the top of each duplicate.
  • To merge all the duplicates, click the blue Merge all button at the top right of the page.
